  EX.5       Soit la fonction f: x → ( 2 x² + 3 x + 4 ) / ( x - 1 ) 

            1. Trouver la limite de f en + ∞.

            2. La courbe ( C ) de la fonction f admet-elle une asymptote oblique 

                en + ∞.

             3. La courbe ( C ) admet-elle une asymptote verticale?

  REP          1. Trouvons  la limite de f en + ∞.

                      f est une fonction rationnelle  définie dans IR - { 1 }.  

 

                  + ∞ est une extrémité d'un intervalle de définition de f .

                   On peut faire la recherche.

              Soit x > 1.

           Le quotient des termes de plus haut degré est  ( 2 x²  ) / x.

           Le quotient simplifié des termes de plus haut degré est  2 x.

              lim  2 x  = + ∞  

             x → + ∞  

                Donc 

                 lim ( 2 x² + 3 x + 4 ) / ( x - 1 )     =   + ∞  

                  x → + ∞  

           Conclusion :   lim f ( x ) = + ∞  

                                 x → + ∞  

          2. Déterminons l'asymptote oblique.

              Par division on a :   Pour tout x dans IR - { 1 }

             ( 2 x² + 3 x + 4 ) / ( x - 1 ) = 2 x + 5  +  9 / ( x - 1 )

 

 2 x² + 3 x + 4 | x - 1
- ( 2 x² -  2 x) |2 x+ 5
       5 x + 4  |

- ( 5 x - 5 )

           9

 

              Ainsi :    f( x )  - ( 2 x + 5 ) = 9 / ( x - 1 )

               Or  lim 9 / ( x - 1 ) = 0

                     x → + ∞  

 

 

 

 

 

                 Donc  lim ( f( x )  - ( 2 x + 5 ) ) = 0

                     x → + ∞  

                   Conclusion : La droite d'équation y = 2 x + 5 est une asymptote à

                                       la courbe de f en +∞.

             3. Regardons si la courbe de f admet une asymptote verticale.

                   On a :     •    lim  (  2 x² + 3 x + 4  ) = 9

 

                                      x → 1  

 

                                •     lim ( x- 1 ) = 0+

 

                                      x → 1+

 

 

 

 

 

                                             •    lim ( x- 1 ) = 0-

                                                  x → 1-

                          Ainsi  :

                             • •    lim ( 2 x² + 3 x + 4 ) / ( x - 1 )  1 = 9 / 0 = +∞

 

                                    x → 1+

                         Donc          lim f (x  ) =  +∞

                                  x → 1+

 

                                     • •    lim ( 2 x² + 3 x + 4 ) / ( x - 1 )  1 = 9 / 0 = - ∞

                                                x → 1-

                                             lim f (x  ) =  - ∞

                                              x → 1                                       

                   Conclusion :   La droite D : x = 1 est une asymptote verticale pour

                                      la courbe de f.
